Ermoupoli
The neoclassical capital of the Cyclades

About Ermoupoli
Ermoupoli is unlike anywhere else in the Cyclades. Refugees from other islands founded it during the War of Independence, and in the 19th century it became the busiest port in Greece, building a grand town hall, an opera house and shipowners’ mansions in Vaporia. Today it is the administrative capital of the Cyclades: lived-in all year, elegant and relaxed, with a real town atmosphere rather than a resort one.
