Hydra Town
An amphitheatre of stone mansions
About Hydra Town
Hydra Town is one of the most beautiful harbours in Greece: a horseshoe of cafés and shops on the quay, with the stone mansions of the 18th- and 19th-century shipowners rising steeply behind. There are no cars, so the sounds are of boats, bells and the clip of mules on the cobbles. Mornings are serene; when the day boats arrive around midday the quay gets busy, and it calms down again by evening.
Why it's on our list
