Old town·Rethymno

Venetian and Ottoman layers

About Rethymno

Rethymno, between Heraklion and Chania, has one of the best-preserved old towns on Crete: Venetian doorways, wooden Ottoman balconies, minarets and the Rimondi fountain, all below the great Venetian fortress, the Fortezza. A long sandy beach runs east from the town.

Why it's on our list

  • Fortezza fortress
  • Venetian harbour
  • Long town beach

Opening hours, prices and seasonal openings change, so please check with Rethymno before you go.
