From the old port below Fira, boats cross the caldera to Nea Kameni, where a path climbs over black lava to the still-active craters, then continue to Palea Kameni to swim in warm, iron-rich water. Wear proper shoes for the lava path and bring water; there is an entry fee for the volcano.
