Balos Lagoon
The turquoise lagoon
About Balos Lagoon
Balos is one of the most photographed beaches in Greece: a lagoon so shallow it glows turquoise, below the cliffs of the Gramvousa peninsula. It is a protected area. Reach it by boat from Kissamos, often combined with Gramvousa island and its Venetian fort, or by a rough dirt road and a steep walk down. In August it is very busy; the first boats or late afternoons are best.
