Heraklion
Gateway to Minoan Crete

About Heraklion
Heraklion is a busy, modern Greek city rather than a resort, and that is part of its appeal: Venetian walls, the Koules fortress guarding the old harbour, the Morosini fountain on Lions Square and streets full of cafés and bakeries. Most visitors come for the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and for Knossos, a short drive south. Stay a night or two, then head east or west for the beaches.
