The back story

About Which Greek island is for you?
There are more than 200 inhabited Greek islands, and each has its own personality. Here is our honest guide to choosing.
For glamour and fashion
Mykonos is the most fashion-conscious island in Greece, with famous beach clubs and a buzzing nightlife. Expect high prices.
For romance and views
Santorini’s caldera towns are the most romantic and photographed places in the Aegean, but very popular and busy. Folegandros and Imerovigli give you views with more peace.
Pick the island for the evenings you want, not just the beaches.
For an easy first island
Paros combines lively Parikia, stylish Naoussa, beaches and great ferry links. Naxos adds long sandy beaches and mountain villages, ideal for families.
For nightlife on a budget
Ios is famous for its party nights, especially in July and August.
For food and walking
Sifnos, Tinos and Naxos are the food islands; Amorgos and Sifnos are the walking islands.
For history
Crete has the Minoans, Rhodes the Knights, Naxos the Venetian duchy, and Delos is a short boat ride from Mykonos.
Our advice: combine two or three islands with different characters, such as Paros, Naxos and Santorini, or Mykonos, Tinos and Syros, and spend at least three nights on each.
