Akrotiri’s treasures

About Museum of Prehistoric Thera

Visit the Museum of Prehistoric Thera after (or before) Akrotiri and the site makes far more sense. The galleries hold frescoes, painted jars and everyday objects from the town buried by the eruption, and they show how sophisticated life on the island was some 3,600 years ago. It is a short walk from the Fira bus station and a cool, quiet escape in the midday heat.

Why it's on our list

  • Finds from Akrotiri
  • Near the Fira bus station
  • Good in the midday heat

Opening hours, prices and seasonal openings change, so please check with Museum of Prehistoric Thera before you go.
